SO, YOU MIGHT ASK: WHAT, IN FACT, IS THE BEST AUTOMAKER OF ALL TIME?

For me, it comes down to McLaren and Porsche. The thing is, Porsche is a much older, and therefore more experienced brand than McLaren. The iconic 911 has been crushing it since 1964. McLaren are much newer, making their first production car in 1992. However, although Porsche has earned 6 more 10/10 ratings from Car&Driver, that is not the end of the debate. Motor Trend and Top Gear hold incredibly high opinions of both, so that's not useful. One thing to consider is the variety of the lineups of McLaren and Porsche. The English automaker offers an array of phenomenal mid-engine sports cars, (Artura, 600lt, 570s, 650s), a ridiculously amazing supercar (720s), 5 glorious hypercars (Senna, 765LT, P1, Speedtail, F1), and a grand tourer (GT). Porsche, on the other hand, sells a whole host of 911s, (GT2 RS, GT3, Carrera, Carrera 4,  Speedster, Targa, Turbo), the super engaging 718, the wonderful 918 hybrid, a sports-wagon (Panamera), 2 world-class SUVs (Cayenne, Macan), and even an electric car, the Taycan. 

   

   I must stress, there is nothing impressive about a diverse lineup if the cars and SUVs that make it up are not up to standard. This is where the conversation takes a turn. McLaren have made nothing but outrageously good cars since they showed up in 1992. Porsche, on the other hand, have made at least 2 "duds". Those 2 are the Panamera and Cayenne. While they aren't bad cars, far from it, they have no place in such a magnificent brand's lineup. The Panamera tries hard to imitate the 911, but it has many faults. The Cayenne is simply not as good as competition (Jaguar F-Pace, Alfa-Romeo Stelvio, BMW X5, Land Rover Discovery). Let me make something clear: I'm being unfairly harsh. McLaren and Porsche are THE two best brands in history. I'll let you choose #1 and #2. 

How Does Today's Corvette Compare With The Original?

Today's Corvette is a masterpiece. Perfectly weighted handling, excellent responsiveness, crisp and beautiful lines, impressive performance, enjoyable to drive around a track, or even just around town, while only costing $59,999 for a base model, the iconic Vette’ doesn’t disappoint one bit. It has won numerous awards over the last couple years, such as Motor Trend's 2020 Car Of The Year, Motor Trend's BDC, Car&Driver's 10Best, and also winning a spot among Edmund's TopRated, to name but a few. Many were excited when, in 2018, Chevrolet announced it was moving the Corvette’s engine from the front to the back of the car. Enthusiasts also had their doubts: How would Chevy keep the heart and soul of the Corvette, while changing so much? Turns out they had nothing to worry about. The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette is a success in every possible way. It somehow looks nothing like it's predecessor, while still looking like a Corvette. 

    We now move on to the early ancestor of the 2020 Corvette: The 1969 C3 Corvette. Back in in the early 70's, when the C3 was made available, it was the car to own. It put down Lamborghini-esque lap-times, while costing a fraction as much. Sound familiar? That's because the 2020 version does the same. The C3, to this day, is considered to be one of the best, if not the best American sports cars of the 20th century. While it would be impossible to determine which car was more significant during their time, there are some important things to note when discussing the Corvette. Firstly, both the C3 and C8 were bargains when they came out. Compared to the Maserati Bora, the C3 was a steal. Compared to the Ferrari 488, the C8 is also a steal. While the Chevrolets didn’t necessarily have better performance numbers than the Italians, the Corvettes are definitely a better deal, all things considered. A common gripe from auto enthusiasts is that America never truly made a relevant supercar. The Saleen S7 was a mess. The Ford GT is big and heavy, and cannot handle tough tracks. The Cadillac Cien, promising as it was, never was able to make it to production. However, the new C8 Stingray is changing all that. With outrageous acceleration, unprecedented track times, and a thoroughly beautiful design, Chevrolet have made something special. People are catching on, as the C8 is selling out almost as quickly as the car can spiny to 60 mph. 3.0 seconds, if you’re wondering.

 

Kia Carnival Review: Winning Streak Continues With New (11-Seat!) Minivan

 

The Kia Carnival is one of the most interesting vehicles on the market. For only $30K, you can get one of the best minivans for sale. Boasting possibly the nicest interior in a minivan in 2021, the Carnival is one to think about if you absolutely must seat 7/8 (The 11-seater is sold exclusively in India, but their are reports that it will make it's way to the states). The Kia has competitive gas mileage, estimated to have 19/24 mpg, slightly worse than it's main competitor, the Honda Odyssey, which makes 19/28. The Carnival is not an entirely new vehicle, as it replaces the aging Sedona minivan, the two sharing several parts. It's cube-like styling is intentional, as it tries to imitate Kia's phenomenal Telluride SUV. Like it's sibling, the Carnival packs luxury that is rarely found on such an inexpensive vehicle. Believe it or not, Kia's interiors resemble that of a Land Rover or a Lincoln. The beauty is not skin-deep, however, as the 290 hp 3.6 Liter V6 engine is one of the best in the segment. However, Kia is becoming so dominant that customers will probably neglect the Carnival for another Kia, such as the 8-seater Sorento or Telluride SUVs. However, if you are looking for a minivan, just know that Kia offer 3 of probably 5 of the best 3-row vehicles. You truly cannot go wrong with one over the other.

Porsche Taycan Review: Electrifying Performance Comes With A Big Price Tag

 

Porsche are no stranger to making great cars. In the 911, they have possibly the best sports car of all time. In the 718, an incredibly balanced car. In the Panamera, Porsche have likely the best super-wagon on the market, even better than the Audi RS7 or Mercedes E 63. With the Macan and Cayenne, probably 2 of the best performance SUVs of the past decade. The 918 Spyder was also pretty special. So when Porsche announced an electric sport sedan was in the works, we all knew that it was going to be a winner. The Taycan, in short, is proof that electric doesn't have to be boring. The Tesla Model S Plaid still remains the quickest sedan in history, but it is clearly out of its comfort zone on a track. The Taycan learned from the successes and failures of the Tesla, and, as a result, is a phenomenal car in every aspect. The Porsche was able to match the high bar set by the Tesla Model S, with each able to sprint to 60 mph in only 2.4 seconds! 

  The Taycan is fitted with the customary Porsche interior, with high-quality materials everywhere you can see. The infotainment system is very easy to use, and the seats are of the highest quality. Eric Stafford, editor at Car&Driver, handed the Porsche a terrific 9/10 rating, writing that the Taycan is "A truly innovative electric vehicle, showcasing the high-performance potential of the species". Unfortunately, there is a catch: Porsche demands great amounts of money for great cars. As such, even a base model will cost you six figures. It is a great car, but, to be painfully honest, I would go for a Model 3 Performance instead. Not to take anything away from the Taycan, as a matter of fact, I saw one just the other day, and it sure was a lot prettier than a Tesla. Regardless, price is a factor when comparing cars, even if Taycan customers have cash as a non-issue.

  In a move that shocked none of us, Alfa Romeo decided that, since the Stelvio SUV sold so well, that the Italian firm would, indeed, release a second SUV. The Tonale is a product that promises to offer a sporty, attractive look, quick acceleration and a high top speed, and unrivaled luxury. The Tonale (Not, in fact, pronounced "toenail") has a design that clearly is similar in many ways to the Stelvio, but also has it's own quirks. Inside the cabin, you you will find sumptuous red bucket seats, a state-of-the-art infotainment system, and (YES!) a manual transmission. However, to the dismay of many, Alfa decided to lend from its corporate brother, Jeep, and use the Jeep Renegade's engine, which produces a measly 240 hp, compared to the Alfa Stelvio's 500 hp. Then again, you never know, it could turn out be to be ample power. That's all we know at this point, so stay tuned!

2022 Honda Ridgeline Review: Finally Stepping Out Of The Pilot's Shadow

 

For as long as anyone cares to remember, the Honda Ridgeline was nothing more than a Honda Pilot with a bed. A automaker deciding to attach a bed to one of their SUVs is nothing new: Jeep, Chevrolet, Ford, and GMC all have done it, with considerable success. However, for quite a while, the Ridgeline was relevant, but didn't make a particularly valid reason for it's existence. Many called the Ridgeline out for looking far to soft for a truck, and lacking the muscle of, say, a Ford F-150 or Chevrolet Silverado. Honda, as wisely tend to do, listened to the critics, in hope of building a better product. The 2021 Ridgeline is undoubtedly a better product, with a macho-personality to it's appearance, and a considerable boost of power from the previous model. The truck boasts a 3.5 L V6, which is very competitive in the midsize-pickup truck segment. Edmunds.com were self-proclaimed fans of Honda's pickup truck, saying the Ridgeline is "The smoothest riding mid-size pickup" and also the "Most comfortable mid-size pickup truck". All things considered, Honda fixed what was erratic, and left alone what needn't be changed, leaving us with a really good option for the many millions of Americans who buy a truck every year. 

The Ford Bronco Is Nearing It's Arrival, And The World Can Hardly Wait

 

The long-awaited return of the Ford Bronco is drawing near, and if you, like me, are remotely interested in the 4-wheeled creatures of the road, you probably can't wait to start seeing these bad boys on your street, or possibly even but one of your own. A little back-story: From 1965 till 1996, Ford produced the Bronco, a cube-shaped family SUV that was hugely popular for its 31 years of existence. Now, in 2021, Ford are bringing back the iconic nameplate, now with a modernized design. I think we can all put aside our differences and give a round of applause to the brilliant designers behind the Ford Bronco's design. It is an absolutely spot-on take on the classic that is the original Bronco. They absolutely nailed it, as you can see a ton of cues from it's ancestor, while also having a progressive, modern design. It all came together wonderfully, if you ask me.

  

  When the Bronco was announced, we all had the same question: How would it compete with the wildly popular Jeep Wrangler? It turns out, the two will be very similar in many aspects. The Ford costs $29,995, while the Jeep comes in at only a couple hundreds of dollars less, making for a very even playing field. The Bronco, like the Wrangler, is available in several different forms. There are 2-door and 4-door variants, with either able to be upgrade to the "Sasquatch Package", which makes the SUV even more formidable off the road. There is also a "Sport" version, but it really is a totally different vehicle, warranting a totally different review! Stay tuned. You can only imagine how much the folks at Jeep are sweating right now!

McLaren Speedtail Review: Sleek, Striking, Steep Priced

 

  The gorgeous McLaren Speedtail is what car aficionados have longed for for decades. Basically, what happened is that in 1992 is that McLaren (A brand-new automaker) came out of nowhere and made the best car in history, the mighty F1 (For more info, check out my blog on the F1: MoreThanTransport: McLaren F1: Reviewing The Greatest Car Of All Time) To put it plainly, McLaren got enthusiasts hooked on the F1, and they wanted more. Since then, McLaren made several great supercars, such as the P1, 720S, and others, but they didn't exactly follow the F1's blueprint. The Speedtail did. When designing the F1, McLaren decided the car would be a much better driving partner if it seated the driver in the middle of the car, with 2 passengers behind him. Their theory worked, as the F1 became the fastest car in the world for an astounding 13 years. The Speedtail also employs a 3-seater, centered-driver approach. Thanks to that, and the engineers obsessive approach to keeping the Speedtail, it reaches an incredibly inpressive 250 mph, a huge 10 mph over the F1. Another thing, McLarens look so flippin' beautiful. The Speedtail looks like it belongs in a fine art museum, and we both know it.
